Background
Resurgence of Indian crafts is a self initiated project for a period of ten days. Crafts have given an identity to India since centuries. They have been embedded as a culture and tradition within rural communities. They emerged with different meanings for different communities. While different crafts have been emerged with different culture and tradition in older days, they have started losing their identity and have been diminished for various reasons in modern times. Some of the crafts have been overtaken by technology or modern art while some craftsmen have moved to other professions to make a better living. Some of them face identity issues while some are helpless to take their craft forward because of no aids and support.
Through Resurgence of Indian Crafts, an extensive research is performed to understand about a certain craft and the challenges it faces in today's context. I chose Puppetry as the research topic and to understand why puppetry is no more a popular means of entertainment.

Puppets originated as a means of entertainment. They were presented in front of the king as a means of entertainment. Later, puppets were meant to convey any message regarding various issues and make people learn new learning. They depicted various traditions and culture using story-telling. But now puppetry is not being practiced much. It was assumed that there is no audience to watch it as digital media is taking over theatre shows, etc. For this a survey was conducted so as to understand what people think about puppets.
Design Need
Create new identity of puppets in the market and increase the market for the artisans.

43.2% people are not ready to watch puppet shows over Television. The competition with digital media needs to be handled. – INSIGHT

Ideation
The ideation started with providing the puppets different usability. The ideas were as follows:
• Design a device that can talk to people and give it a puppet body.

• Design a product that can be used as an artefact.
• Design a product that can be kept in public spaces that can be used by people to interact with.
• Design a device that will analyse a person’s activity in personal and guide him the way to do it correctly.
Realization
Puppets release more stress as compared to TV as they are more relaxing in terms of relaxation for eyes, thought process. Through secondary research it was realized that puppets are good means to express emotions. Thus, they can be used to understand the emotions of a child. This can be used by parents, teachers or in hospitals by doctors. They can also be used to depict thought process of a child.
